Ce manuscrit a appartenu à la bibliothèque des rois Aragonais de Naples . Il est saisi par Charles VIII en 1495 et apporté au château d'Amboise, puis transféré à la Librairie royale de Blois. Ce manuscrit est mentionné dans l'inventaire du transfertde Blois à Fontainebleau en 1544 : "Ung autre aussi en papier en italien intitulé « mescalchia », couvert de cuir noir" (Omont n° 1733) et dans le catalogue de la bibliothèque du roi à Paris à la fin du XVIe siècle : "L’art de devoir de mareschal" (Omont n° 2682).
