Le manuscrit, qui rassemble quatre unités codicologiques de datations et origines diverses, a fait partie de la bibliothèque de Jacques-Auguste de Thou (1553-1617) dont on trouve la signature au bas du f. 1 (cf. le catalogue des manuscrits de Thou dressé en 1617, ms. Dupuy 653, item n° 603).
Cette collection a été acquise en 1680 par Jean-Baptiste Colbert (1619-1683) : cf. la cote ancienne au f. 1r, « Cod. Colb. 6459 ».
Le volume entra dans la Bibliothèque royale en 1732, avec d'autres manuscrits colbertins (cf. la cote ancienne au f. 1r, « Regius 8188.2 »).
