Le manuscrit est composé de quatre unités, dont la première a été produite dans le Nord-Est de la France. La troisième unité a été copiée pour combler la lacune textuelle de la deuxième, puis le copiste a ajouté d’autres textes. Le volume a appartenu au chapitre de Saint-Eloi de Noyon (cf. l’ex-libris au f. 4r, XIIe siècle : « Liber Sancti Eligii episcopi Noviomi », reporté au f. IIr, XVIIe siècle : « S. Eligii Noviomensis »), et ensuite à l’abbaye de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés (cf. la cote ancienne au f. IIIr, « 76 » ; cf. aussi B. de Montfaucon, Bibliotheca Bibliothecarum, II, 1739, p. 1142 : « 76. 1098. Opera quaedam S. Gregorii Papae. S. Hieronymi. Ivonis Carnotensis multa. Leidradi Lugdunensis ad Carolum imp. »). Le manuscrit est passé à l’abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Prés (cf. au f. IIr, l’ex-libris « Sancti Germani a Pratis » et la cote ancienne « 794 » et « N. 794 ») et il entra à la Bibliothèque Nationale entre décembre 1795 et février 1796, avec d’autres manuscrits de Saint-Germain.
