Les deux manuscrits constitutifs du Paris. gr. 1848 portent sur la première page l'ex-libris de Jean-François d'Asola : A me Io. Francisco Asulano. La forme de cet ex-libris pourrait indiquer, plutôt que la possession, la provenance, en vue du départ de la bibliothèque de Jean-François d'Asola pour Fontainebleau.
La bibliothèque de Jean-François d'Asola a été acquise par François Ier par l'intermédiaire de son ambassadeur à Venise, Guillaume Pélicier ; même si certaines lettres font allusion à un don, il y a certainement eu une rétribution dont on ignore le montant ; l'arrivée des livres en France se situe entre 1542 et 1545.
