D’après la décoration et l’écriture, le manuscrit a été produit dans un scriptorium du Sud-Ouest de la France, peut-être à l'abbaye de Saint-Pierre de Moissac. Ce manuscrit faisait partie d’un ensemble de quatre volumes contenant les Enarrationes in Psalmos d’Augustin (Latin 1983-1986), qui faisait partie de la bibliothèque de Moissac (cf. Dufour, « La composition de la bibliothèque de Moissac », p. 209) ; le volume a été acquis par Jean-Baptiste Colbert en 1678 (cf. la cote au f. 1r, « Cod. Colbert. 941 ») et entra à la Bibliothèque royale en 1732, avec d’autres manuscrits colbertins (cote au f. 1r, « Regius 3771.3 »).
