Produite en Angleterre au milieu du XIIe siècle, la première unité codicologique (f. 1-136) a appartenu vraisemblablement à l’abbaye de Beaupré (diocèse de Beauvais). À une époque ancienne (XIIIe s. ?), il lui a été ajoutée la deuxième unité codicologique (f. 137-145, plus un feuillet isolé, [146]). Le ms. a été relié lors de son entrée dans la collection de Philippe de Béthune (1565?-1649), dont la reliure en atteste la provenance : cf. aussi l’inventaire publié par Omont, Anciens inventaires, III, p. 390, cote Béthune « théol. 211 ».Enfin, le volume entra dans la Bibliothèque Royale en 1664 avec d'autres manuscrit de la collection Béthune. Sur le f. 1r, cotes anciennes et cote actuelle : « 4292 » (Clément), « 2199 » (biffée, cote inemployé), « 2202 A ».
