Ce manuscrit a appartenu à Gaston d’Orléans (1608-1660), frère du roi de France Louis XIII.
En 1660, Gaston d'Orléans légua au roi Louis XIV sa collection, qui fut transférée au Cabinet du palais du Louvre en 1663, puis à la Bibliothèque royale en 1666 (n°19 de la liste des manuscrits de Gaston d’Orléans par Nicolas Clément, fin XVIIe siècle : cf. BnF, Manuscrits, Latin 17172, f. 43 ; Omont, Anciens inventaires et catalogues de la Bibliothèque nationale, IV, Paris, 1913, p. 277).
