  • Collection of medical receipts: in Latin. With a few at the end for conserves and drinks: in Italian.Written in a neat humanistic hand, 19 lines to a page: headings in red.The blank leaves have been used before and washed, but traces of a small gothic 13th cent. [?] script are visible. From fol. 191 to the end, the text is in Italian; but the MS. is by the same hand throughout.Ff. 97v-139 contain remedies for Plague, beginning with a 'Consilium Reuerendissimi patris domini Theophili de mediolano ordinis sancti Benedicti contra pestem'. This consists of an exhortation to the afflicted person to go to Confession and receive the Last Sacraments, etc., written in the form of a medical receipt. Theophilus [Galeotti] of Milan became Abbot of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice in 1462. There are also plague remedies ascribed to Matthias Veronesis (ff. 98, 107v, 123v, 134), of whom no record has been traced. The compiler of this MS. may have been 'Infirmarius' to this Monastery, as on fol. 28v he speaks of 'monachum nostrum'. Produced in Venice(?).
  • Among the blank leaves after the main text are a few receipts by several 16th cent. hands. One on the fifth leaf is dated 1596; and on the fifteenth verso, 1598 is written over a Penitential Psalm in Latin.
  • Purchased 1906.
